Captain Ratbeard is one of five key members of the Pirats. His role in the crew is the captain leading the hunt against Reader Rabbit and Sam the Lion. According to Riley, his previous name was "Harold Hairball the Third" and he was a laughing stock.
Personality[]
Captain Ratbeard is a tough acting rat who leads a number of rats in his crew of Merry Pirats. He speaks in a thick Irish accent. As revealed in his song, he has been into piracy since he was a baby. His goals are to protect the Pirats' cheese supply on Pirate Island, to capture Reader Rabbit and Sam the Lion and to commandeer their Dreamship, and he will stop at nothing to accomplish these. He likes to get his way through trickery and recklessness. He is very quick to judge and assume, often ignoring advice from Vermina and as a result his plans fall into ruin. Occasionally he does nice things for his crew, like reserving pink lemonade for a special occasion. His favorite food is cheese.[1]
Appearance[]
In "Reader Rabbit Math Adventures Ages 6–9", Captain Ratbeard is a anthropomorphic rat who has cream colored fur with ginger hair, beard and mustache, and a pink nose. He wears a pirate hat made of cheese and a green feather, a white shirt, a violet jacket, a brass buckle leather belt, grey trousers and brown shoes.
In "Reader Rabbit Preschool: Sparkle Star Rescue" he wears a black pirate hat with a green feather and yellow lining, a pair of gold earrings, a pair of brown gloves, a buttonless violet jacket with yellow lining, grey trousers and black boots. He now has ginger eyebrows and no longer has pink colored inner ears.
In "Reader Rabbit Learn to Read With Phonics: 1st & 2nd Grade", his nose color is changed to black. This is also the case with the other Pirats.
