Reader Rabbit is a grayish-blue young rabbit with a soft, light voice and the titular protagonist of The Learning Company's Reader Rabbit series, created by Leslie Grimm.

Appearances[]

Reader Rabbit appears in all Reader Rabbit titles except Math Rabbit and its remakes before Reader Rabbit Math Adventures Ages 4-6, Writer Rabbit, and the series' spin-off, Interactive Math Journey. His first appearance was in the 1984 Apple II version of Reader Rabbit and the Fabulous Word Factory. The first game he was voiced in was Talking Reader Rabbit. Reader Rabbit 2 shows that his residence is a tree-house.

Physical Appearance[]

Reader Rabbit is an anthropomorphic rabbit whose appearance varies between games.

1980s[]

In the 1980s games, Reader is a white rabbit who wears a shirt and overalls, each a different color depending on the game.

Early 1990s[]

In the early 1990s games, Reader has gray and white fur with long ears and a pink nose, and he wears a red sweater. In Reader Rabbit 3, he wears a purple necktie.

Mid 1990s[]

In the mid 1990s games, Reader has light gray and white fur with long ears, one folded, brown eyes, and a black nose, and he wears a red sweater. In Reader Rabbit 1 and 2 Deluxe, he wears a red long sleeve shirt and blue overalls.

Late 1990s[]

In the late 1990s games, Reader has grayish blue fur with a white lower face, chest, belly, toes, foot undersurfaces, and tail. He has long ears, one usually folded, a tuft of fur on top of his head, and a pink nose, and he wears a red sweater with a single blue stripe on the chest going around the back and sleeves.

2000s-2010s[]

Reader's appearance in the 2000s-2010s games has roughly the same features as that of the late 1990s, but he is shorter and has white eyebrows. The white fur on his lower face doesn't extend over his cheeks, both ears are usually unfolded, and he wears a red t-shirt and blue jeans. In Reader Rabbit Jumpsmarter, he wears black round eyeglasses.

Personality[]

Reader Rabbit can be seen as a sweet and kind-hearted rabbit, and just like many of the other characters, he is joyful about what he appreciates, and his happiness can be appreciated by anyone. He is helpful and nice to others, even the Pirats. His hobbies include reading and going on adventures with his friends. His favorite food is carrots.[1]

Reader Rabbit has many friends, but his best friends are Sam the Lion, Mat the Mouse, Paige, and Chester.

Occupations[]

Reader Rabbit has various occupations that depend on the game. In Reader Rabbit and the Fabulous Word Factory and its remakes, he operates the Word Factory. In Reader Rabbit 3, he is a journalist and newspaper reporter at Daily Skywriter. In Let's Start Learning!/Reader Rabbit Preschool, he works as a waiter at the ABC Diner. In Reader Rabbit 1st Grade, he is the director and producer of Wordville's Really Big Show at the theater.

  • On covers of earlier games from 1991-2000, Reader has beige rims around his eyes and gloves on his hands. These features were not seen in the actual 1994-2000 games.
