Penelope is a tropical parrot and a good friend of Reader Rabbit and the other Wordville critters.
Appearance[]
Penelope is a parrot with green feathers and an orange beak, legs, and feet. In Reader Rabbit 1st Grade, she has a dark green body and a light green head and tail feathers, and long curved eyelashes.
In games after Reader Rabbit 1st Grade, Penelope was given a redesign, with bright green feathers of the same color scheme all around her, and shorter and thicker eyelashes. She also has a long bright green feather sticking up on her head. In the 2000s, Penelope's appearance is the same, but with a lighter green tummy and circles on her cheeks.
Personality[]
Penelope is a helpful sort who comes up with great ideas and is supportive to her friends. Due to her vast knowledge of Pirate Island, she is able to help her friends evade the Pirats. She is also skilled at pizza making. Her favorite food is crackers.[1]

Reader Rabbit 1st Grade[]
Penelope makes her debut in Reader Rabbit 1st Grade, in which she helps with the preparations for Wordville's Really Big Show and works on her pronunciations with Professor Owl, who she costars with in the show during a comedic western act.
Reader Rabbit Math Adventures Ages 6-9[]
In Reader Rabbit Math Adventures Ages 6-9, Penelope lives on Pirate Island, where Reader Rabbit and Sam the Lion crash their boat, the Sea Lion, in the middle of a boat race. Penelope meets up with the duo and agrees to help them rebuild the Sea Lion by finding all the boat pieces they need, which are scattered around the island. While Reader makes camp and builds the boat, Penelope and Sam go around the island in search of boat pieces while evading the Pirats. With Penelope's assistance, the friends build a new and improved Sea Lion and escape the island, and end up finishing the race together.
Reader Rabbit: Playtime for Baby[]
In Reader Rabbit: Playtime for Baby, Penelope occasionally appears inside the top circular window of the Discovery House.

Reader Rabbit and the Missing Parrot Mystery[]
In Reader Rabbit and the Missing Parrot Mystery, Penelope serves as the guardian of the Dreamship from the Pirats. When Reader and Sam go to see her, she's missing, and they start looking for clues to find out what happened to her. They soon realize that Penelope was in a crate of cheese, which the Pirats took away with them. Reader and Sam find Penelope in the cave of the Pirats and escape onto the Dreamship, celebrating Penelope's return.
