Reader Rabbit's Reading Development Library 1 is a video game released by The Learning Company in 1995 for Windows and Macintosh. It is the first of the Reading Development Library series. The game consists of two stories, which can be narrated by Sam the Lion or by two different characters from the story. There are also additional activities which include a list of key words, writing letters to the story characters, matching words and pictures and putting the story in order.
Stories
The first story is "The Three Little Pigs" which includes Mama Pig, the First Pig, the Second Pig, the Third Pig, Straw Man, Stick Man, Brick Man and the Wolf. When narrated by the Second Pig, she admits how much she likes to work easy, but turns her nose at her brother's (Third Pig) hard work. She is convinced her stick house will hold until the Wolf blows it down. When narrated by the Wolf, he stalks the pigs and plans to eat them for his dinner. When his plan fails, he loses his appetite for pigs. Finally, he leaves the house (after burning his tail from the three pigs's cauldron of water), flies into the woods, and promises to never bother the pigs again.
The second story is "Goldilocks and the Three Bears" which includes the titular Goldilocks, Papa Bear, Mama Bear and Baby Bear. When narrated by Goldilocks, she is full of curiosity to explore the three bears' house and the inconvenience she caused them was an innocent misunderstanding. When narrated by Baby Bear, he regards Goldilocks' presence and actions in the house as rude and inconsiderate. On the last page, Goldilocks, looking scared, runs away and never comes back. And from then on, she never touches anything that does not belong to her.
