A few minor changes were also made in this version, including the addition of speech recognition and a few other differences. In 2000, another version was released, featuring the Treehouse Launcher and the Learning Creations program.

Differences Between Versions[]

  • Version 1.0 has four activity locations in Camp Happy Tales, including Canoe Match, Diner Lineup, Number Lumber, and Get Your Bearings. Counting Lake was added in Version 2.0.
  • In Version 1.0, the player collects 52 items while in Version 2.0, the player collects 65 items.
  • Version 2.0 adds a Practice Mode option to the sign-in screen, allowing the player to play and practice skills in each activity without keeping progress.
  • In Version 1.0, Babs, Baby Bear, Papa Bear, Pierre, and Spike were originally voiced by Randy Latimer, Jenner Snell, John Arthur Olson, and Len Goodman, respectively. In Version 2.0, each character was re-dubbed by Becca Barnes, Irene Trapp, Sean O'Kane, Pete Shoemaker, and Roger L. Jackson, respectively, although some of Pierre and Spike's voice clips remain unchanged in-game.
  • Version 2.0 adds a music track to the campground screen, which was originally silent.
  • At the campground, there were initially two large evergreen trees in the grass behind the Canoe Match sign. These trees were removed in Version 2.0 to make way for the tent and camping gear's new position and the lake supplies.
  • In Version 1.0, the tent and camping gear are placed near the Diner Lineup path. In Version 2.0, they were moved near the Canoe Match path to make way for the Counting Lake path.
  • In Version 1.0, Pop appears on top of a log at the campground in his full pad form. In Version 2.0, he was moved inside the log, in the form of an amorphous shape, slightly darker, to make way for the radio that leads to the Camp Dance Hall.
  • When the player moves the cursor over an activity sign at the campground, after about a second, Charlie will say the name of each activity. In Version 2.0, each sign is animated when the name of an activity is spoken.
  • In the UK dub of Version 1.0, Babs is named "Betty". In the UK dub of Version 2.0, however, her name is changed back to "Babs".
  • A print option has been added to the Seasons Scrapbook and Playful Painting activities in Version 2.0, allowing the player to print their pictures they decorate/color in.
  • Version 2.0 adds a speech recognition microphone option, allowing the player to play by speech.
  • A progress report has been added to the Pop menu in Version 2.0, in place of the Skills Chart button. The skills chart is still accessed from the progress report screen.
  • The 2000 version replaces the sign-in button on Pop with the Clubhouse button.
  • In Version 1.0, when exiting an activity location, Mat returns to the gateway entrance where the gateway puzzle was before it, giving the player the option to either return to the campground or go back to the location. When returning to the campground, there is a sequence of Mat going down each path she came from. In Version 2.0, Mat returns directly to the campground upon exiting a location without a return sequence.
  • In Version 1.0, when Mat is clicked on at the campfire party, the crowd will cheer her name, and Mat will thank and give a wink to the player once more. In Version 2.0, Charlie will ask Mat to sing a song, and the song "Teamwork" will play.
  • Version 2.0 rewards a player certificate to the player after completing the game before the credits, which the player can print out if they choose to do so.

Trivia[]

  • A snippet of this game appears on one of the computers during the "Kindergarten" segment in The Wiggles episode "Zardo Zap".[1]
  • Wonder Pony's presence in the intro implies that the events of this game are set after the events of Reader Rabbit Preschool/Let's Start Learning.
  • This game, along with Reader Rabbit 1st Grade and Reader Rabbit 2nd Grade, was promoted by Sun Maid raisins in 1999.
  • With a total of 15 activities, including main and side activities and gateway puzzles, Reader Rabbit Kindergarten has the most activities in any Reader Rabbit game.
    • However, this is only the case with the second version; the first version ties with Reader Rabbit 1st Grade for having a total of 12 activities, since it does not feature the Counting Lake location.
  • Although they do not appear in-game, the Singing Birds are heard singing five of the songs in the Camp Dance Hall in the second version of the game.
  • In the UK, Version 1.0 uses the same title as the US version.
  • Mat wears shorts in this game instead of her usual denim dress. Although, the 1997 cover art shows her in her normal outfit.
  • The original title screen had a red copyright text in the US version while in the UK version, it had a blue copyright text.
  • In the 2000 release, the scene where Charlie tells the player to sign-in is omitted, as the sign-in screen appears before the main game rather than after the intro sequence. This is also the case with other grade-based games aimed at 3 to 8 year-olds that were re-released in 2000.
  • The cover arts for the 1998-2000 versions show Pierre in a red beret, but his in-game appearance remains unchanged from that of the original release.
  • The autorun screen for Version 2.0 uses Version 1.0's title card.
  • The image on the cover of the UK Personalised version is mirrored.
  • In the US Personalized version on Windows XP and above, there is a glitch while playing the "Playful Painting" activity that causes the picture to blank out when the player tries to color it in. This does not happen on Windows 95-ME, Macintosh or the overseas versions.
  • On the inside of the 1997 box, Papa Bear wears a dark purple nightgown. In the actual game however, he wears a light purple one.

Goofs[]

  • Although the UK version of Version 2.0 was released in 1999, the title screen still has a 1997 copyright date.
