Reader Rabbit Preschool: Sparkle Star Rescue! is a computer game in The Learning Company's Reader Rabbit series of children's educational games. It was released in 2001 for Windows and Macintosh as the successor to the original Reader Rabbit Preschool.

Plot[]

Reader Rabbit and Sam the Lion are flying their Dreamship along with Chester and Paige when they notice that the stars are disappearing. They meet Spark, a firefly, who leads them to her home, Sparkalot. She explains that the Pirats' ship is plugging up Mount Brill which is where the stars come from, and that in order to remove the ship, Reader and Sam have to collect five yellow Brillites and put them in the slots on Mount Brill. When they do so, the Pirats' ship is ejected from Mount Brill's crater and Spark rewards them with a purple Brillite for saving the stars.

In 2002, the game was re-released as a Special 2 CD Edition, which includes Reader Rabbit Dreamship Tales as a bonus disc. The game has been updated to be compatible with the Learning Launcher, a program launcher for games released by The Learning Company in the early 2000s. The subtitle has been removed in this version, except in the title screen.

In 2010, the game was ported to the Nintendo Wii.[2]

In 2012, the game was released digitally for Apple iOS. In 2014, it was released for macOS.

Trivia[]

  • This is the first product in the Reader Rabbit franchise to feature the modern redesigns for the characters Reader Rabbit, Sam the Lion, and the Pirats.
  • This is the first game to have a new music track during the title sequence, which is heard during the title sequences in every game since.
  • This is the only game in the Dreamship series to have more than one original song segment, having a total of three.
    • Additionally, the songs in this game are re-accessed by clicking on a trail of musical notes from three respective holes in Sparkalot, rather than from the movie screen.
  • The trail of stars left by the cursor when moved on the screen is re-used from Reader Rabbit: Playtime for Baby and Reader Rabbit Toddler. This is the only other game to have this detail.
  • On the map, the Back, Options, and Exit buttons are lined horizontally at the bottom of the map below the locations. In other grade-based Dreamship series games, these buttons are lined vertically at the bottom right corner of the map.
  • The North American Wii release was initially given an "E" (Everyone) rating by the ESRB, but it was changed to "EC" (Early Childhood) in the final product. The Wii ports of the other three games were given an "E" rating.
