Vermina is one of five key members of the Pirats. Her role in the crew is mainly a guard or swabbing the deck for Captain Ratbeard.
Personality[]
Vermina is a sweet-natured rat. She is usually the voice of reason with Captain Ratbeard, though her sensible ideas usually fall on his deaf ears. As a result she ends up having to clean up after the Pirats or otherwise rescue them. As revealed in her song, she joined the Pirats to see the ocean and travel the world. In contrast to Ratbeard's piratey antics, she prefers negotiation and helping out. In Reader Rabbit 2nd Grade: Mis-cheese-ious Dreamship Adventures!, it is revealed that her favourite food is French bread.
Physical Appearance[]
Vermina has cream colored fur with long brown hair. Originally, she had light blue eyes and a pink nose. She wears a ragged blue shirt with a beige belt and a pair of dark blue trousers. Slight modifications have been made to her appearance around 2001. In Reader Rabbit Preschool: Sparkle Star Rescue, her eye color is changed to green and in Reader Rabbit: Learn to Read With Phonics: 1st & 2nd Grade, her nose color was changed to black. This is also the case with the other Pirats.

- Vermina is the first Pirat to sit by the campfire in the cave of Pirats, implying she had possibly lit the campfire herself.
- Vermina bears a striking resemblance to Gadget Hackwrench from the 1980s Disney cartoon, Chip ‘n Dale Rescue Rangers.
- Her name is a play on the word "vermin," a word for a mischievous animal or pest, such as her species, a rat.
